Promise of immune modulation to inhibit atherogenesis.

چکیده
t is now widely recognized that the evolving atherosclerotic esion has nearly all of the characteristics of a chronic nflammatory disease, including the active participation of any arcs of immune function. That immune mechanisms lay an important, if not dominant, role once atherosclerosis as been initiated is attested to by scores of examples in hich manipulations of both adaptive and innate immune unction have profoundly impacted atherogenesis in murine odels, accelerating it or providing atheroprotective influnces (1–5).

AMPK: A Bridge between Inflammation and Metabolism
Hypercholesterolemia and low-grade inflammation are both basic factors that contribute to the genesis and progression of atherosclerosis. AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is proposed to be a key regulator of cellular and organismal metabolism. Increased evidence shows that AMPK signaling can inhibit inflammatory responses. The macrophages play a diverse array of roles in atherogenesis, such ...
متن کاملOral anti-CD3 antibody treatment induces regulatory T cells and inhibits the development of atherosclerosis in mice.
BACKGROUND Accumulating evidence suggests that several subsets of regulatory T cells that actively mediate immunologic tolerance play crucial roles in atherogenesis. Recently, orally administered anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody has been shown as an inducer of novel regulatory T cells expressing latency-associated peptide (LAP) on their surface, which potently prevents systemic autoimmunity. In the...
متن کاملHigh density lipoproteins and atherosclerosis: emerging aspects
High density lipoproteins (HDL) promote the efflux of excess cholesterol from peripheral tissues to the liver for excretion. This ability is responsible for the most relevant anti-atherogenic effect of HDL. The ability of HDL to promote cholesterol efflux results also in the modulation of a series of responses in the immune cells involved in atherosclerosis, including monocyte-macrophages, B an...
متن کاملInsights Into Mechanisms of Inflammation in Atherosclerosis and Diabetes Mellitus
It is now widely accepted that inflammation and immunity play important roles in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. Over the past 3 decades, it has been demonstrated that cells of both the innate and adaptive immune systems contribute to the progression of atherosclerosis and modulation of plaque stability.1 Similarly, recent studies in experimental models of obesity and...
متن کاملEffect of Intra-Peritoneal Injection of Chitosan Nanoparticle Loaded with Leishmania major Excretory-Secretory Antigens on Macrophage Function in Exposure to Parasites in BALB/c Mice.
Background: Leishmania major (L.major) is a causative agent of leishmaniasis. The disease has now become a public health problem. Modulation of the immune responses to inhibit the infection or the proliferation of the parasite is an effective way to overcome the leishmaniosis. Leishmania parasite secretory-excretory antigens are responsible for immune system modulation; therefore, they are u...
